After emptying my bathroom trash for the second time this week I’ve started to pay attention to the amount of products I use in my daily routine (and the waste they produce). I use a lot of products–but I don’t think that I use more than most. I’m a new breastfeeding mum, so that means I use a couple more items that usual, but that is all.
So, here’s what I did.
I listed every product that I use for my morning routine (I was hesitent to include my make up. For some reason, I hate discussing the fact that I wear it–but in the spirit of honesty, you’ll find it there). Next, I wrote down that product’s average price (Mostly, from Riteaid’s website) Then, I listed the average time that product lasts (i.e. a bottle of shampoo generally lasts me two months, whereas my mascarra will last me six.) Finally, I divided the average price by the average amount of days the product lasts to get that product’s Daily-Use Cost. Below are the results.
The average amount of dollars spent on each product each day:

Yikes!
Because I was curious, I asked my husband for the products he uses, the amount of time they last, and their price. These were the results. I will say this little exercise has made me grateful that I have a son (it’s also made me reconsider some of the toiletries I feel I need)

If we both walked around like cavemen for one year, we’d be able to go on that illustrious (and evasive) vacation to Spain–That is, if we could keep our jobs…
